September – New Beginnings

Hello welcome to to Munch on Celery

September is definitely a time for new beginnings, but I must say that I find it very sad that July and August passed so quickly.  It seems like you I just blinked and the summer is gone and here we are into September and looking forward to all that fall brings.

I love the fall especially when the leaves start to turn their different colours and the days begin to get cooler.  Hopefully we will have a nice Indian summer as we certainly could use some warm weather to make up for all of the rain that we had in July.

September is also a time to hit the reset button.  If you were slacking with your diet and exercise programs this is the time to get back on track.  It is also a time to try new recipes, take a course, read a new book, or even look up and old friend.

I took some time off in August to travel to beautiful British Columbia and also to visit family.  On our travels we went to Nelson, BC for a day trip.  On our way back we decided to stop at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park as the Kokanee Salmon were spawning.  While walking our dog Jake we noticed  yellow caution tape around the trees as well as bear signs.  We didn’t really stray too far from the visitor centre as I didn’t want to encounter a bear.  While watching the Kokanee salmon travel up the stream all of sudden I heard another visitor shout “bear” and sure enough across the creek was a black bear.  Of course he was really only interested in catching some fish but I didn’t want to take any chances with Jake so we left the area.  I was amazed at how many people with their children just stood there and watched without any hesitation at all.

Last Friday I went out for lunch to a great place called Freshii’s, honestly, what a cool place. I didn’t realize that we had Freshii’s in Calgary so I checked it out and we have had some locations since September of 2015 and naturally it is a franchise from United States.   Straight from their website “Freshii is focused on providing fresh and nutritious meal choices that energize people on the go”.  I love their concept and will be gracing their doorstep again hopefully soon as I loved what I had for lunch.   I chose to have the Fiesta salad and I was surprised at how fresh and tasty it was and the portion of chicken was very generous.    Check it out for yourself!

Some of my next posts will feature some new recipes that I have found, tried and liked.

Until then have a great day!
